A new physics discovery proves the idea that our Earth and universe are 6000 years old is false. Yes, I know, if you are a “believer,” the 6000-year idea is hooked to your “religion.” But the key to intelligence is to test all our ideas against facts.
As I have written before, you can justifiably believe what you wish about God, heaven, hell, and the spirit world. You can believe what you wish about the Bible. But if you extrapolate your beliefs about the non-physical world into ideas about the physical world, then people can test your ideas about the physical world using the scientific method.
About 10 percent of Americans believe our Earth and universe are 6000 years old. They believe the Bible proves this is true. Using the scientific method, we cannot prove an idea is true. We can only prove an idea is false. We approach truth when we discard ideas that are false.
This means we must be willing to reject any idea that proves to be false. That is the key to knowledge.
A recent physics experiment proves our Earth and universe are much older than 6000 years.
One hundred years ago, Dr. Einstein made a prediction using his General Theory of Relativity. He predicted that if two black holes collided and coalesced, the final moment of the coalescence would give off tremendous energy. This energy would send waves of gravity out into the universe. Einstein predicted these gravity waves distort space-time.
Several years ago, the National Science Foundation (where I used to work a long time ago) funded a physics experiment to detect such gravity waves. There are two facilities 1800 miles apart. One facility is in Livingston, Louisiana, and the other is in Hanford, Washington.
On September 14, 2015, the Livingston instruments recorded a signal. Seven milliseconds later, the Hanford instruments recorded a similar signal. Scientists concluded these were indeed the gravity waves Einstein predicted.
Scientists used the frequency and amplitude of the signals to compute the source of the signals. The source was the coalescence of two black holes. One black hole had a mass 29 times the mass of our sun. The other had a mass 36 times the mass of our sun. The black holes were 1.3 billion light years away, which means the event occurred 1.3 billion years ago.
If scientists had only observed these signals with no theory to explain them, they would not know what caused them. However, when scientists record signals that exactly match a theoretical signal that gives credibility to the theory. There is no other theory that can explain the recorded signals.
The conclusion is clear. The Earth and universe are billions of years old.
Now, if you are a 6000-year old Earth believer, you have a Robert Frost decision to make. You can choose the road of delusion or you can choose the road of reality.
If you choose the road of delusion, you will never be able to use the scientific method to learn truth. You will be a sitting duck to believe more delusions. You might as well believe in Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy. You will throw away the intelligence that God gave you.
If you choose the road of reality, then you will be able to use the scientific method to enhance your life. You will be better able to reject other delusions. You will be better able to use the intelligence that God gave you.
If you choose the road of reality, you can still keep your belief in God. It only means you don’t agree with how some people interpret Genesis.
