What Obama should have said about climate

by Dr. Ed Berry

EXB150Here’s what Obama should have told Americans about climate change in his State of the Union address on January 20, 2015.

My fellow Americans, my speech writers wrote

“2014 was the planet’s warmest year on record.”

Rather than parrot what they write, it’s time I give you a lesson on the scientific method.

That’s right, I’m going to come clean about the climate hoax.

The fact is your government has used invalid data, cherry-picked data, and bypassed the scientific method.

NASA said 2014 was the warmest year on record.

In a later paragraph, that no one seems to have read but me, NASA revealed there is only a 38 percent chance 2014 was the warmest year on record.

That means there is a 62 percent chance 2014 is NOT the warmest year on record. Duh.

Nice try NASA but no cigar.

NASA data shows 2014 was only 0.01 C warmer than 2005. This 0.01 C difference is insignificant and a meaningless round-off error in NASA’s calculations. NASA’s temperature data is not that accurate. The best we can say is there is no difference.

NASA turned its round-off error into public policy. If you did not catch that one then America really needs a better education system.

Here’s another problem with NASA’s global temperature mumbo-jumbo. NASA is using surface temperature,  not the more accurate satellite-measured temperature. Satellite temperature records began in 1979 and they show 2014 was not even close to being the warmest year on record.

My speech writers also wrote

“14 of the 15 warmest years on record have all fallen in the first 15 years of this century.”

So?

Satellite data show the Earth’s global temperature remained statistically flat for the last 16 plus years. Like night and day, summer and winter, natural cycles influence global temperature. Good scientists tell us global temperature is at a peak in its natural cycle and will continue downward from here.

How do I know all this stuff? Hey, I’m president. Being president makes you smarter than everyone else … although it didn’t seem to work for “W.”

Here’s the kicker about climate that no one from the government tells you. The important question is not about whether global temperature has gone up, remained flat, or gone down.

The important question is, “Was it our fault?”

Nowhere did my speech writers mention that human carbon dioxide emissions caused the increase in temperature. That’s because they don’t have to. You are all programmed to believe its your fault. So you believe any increase in global temperature is because you burned fossil fuels. This gives us tremendous power over you. We control how you think.

Does this increase in satellite-measured global temperature mean our carbon dioxide emissions caused the recent warm period in the last 16 years? Hell no! If you believe that baloney then we really have to improve our education system.

(Obama laughs uncontrollably for 15 seconds, slapping the podium. Then he gets serious and continues.)

The scientific method requires we discard any hypothesis that makes a wrong prediction. It recognizes we cannot confirm truth but we make progress toward truth by invalidating ideas that are wrong.

You probably forgot we tested our hypothesis that our carbon dioxide emissions cause global warming and the hypothesis failed.

Here’s how we tested it.

Our climate models contain our global warming hypothesis and everything else we think we know about climate that we can stuff into a computer.

Our climate models made predictions beginning in 1980 and extending to 2025. If real global temperature followed the model predictions we would be encouraged to believe our global warming hypothesis may be true.

Here’s what happened.

In 1980, the 19 US climate models predicted in the mean that human carbon dioxide emissions would cause global temperature to rise by 0.8 degrees C by 2015. We will test that prediction. The satellite data show real global temperature rose by only 0.25 degrees C. This is a dramatic failure of a scientific prediction. If NASA were that bad in the 1960’s we would have missed the moon.

19ModelsChristy620Richard Feynman (Nobel Laureate in Physics) preached, “If your prediction is wrong, your hypothesis is wrong.” Period. End of Story.

ModelsObservations620My speech writers wrote,

“The best scientists in the world are all telling us that our activities are changing the climate, and if we do not act forcefully, we’ll continue to see rising oceans, longer, hotter heat waves, dangerous droughts and floods, and massive disruptions that can trigger greater migration, conflict, and hunger around the globe.”

The truth is any so-called scientist who says this has not followed the scientific method. Therefore, these are not the “best scientists in the world.” They ignore the evidence that there is nothing unnatural about our climate. They refuse to acknowledge their hypothesis has failed. The best scientists in the world are those who follow the scientific method.

Here’s what the best scientists in the world really say.

The primary driver of Earth’s temperature is the solar radiation absorbed on land and oceans. Planet Earth controls its temperature by adjusting its cloud cover. More cloud cover cools Earth. Less cloud cover warms Earth. That’s why you like to go out and play on a cloudless, sunny day.

Planet Earth controls its greenhouse effect by adjusting atmospheric water vapor to compensate for  changes in less-powerful greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide. Earth can adjust water vapor and cloud cover because it has so much surface water to evaporate.

Extraterrestrial forces conspire to change Earth’s temperature. Earth’s orbit and tilt affect the amount of solar radiation that gets to its surface. Cosmic rays increase cloud cover and cool Earth. A more active sun “blows away” cosmic rays, decreasing cloud cover and warming Earth. In ages past, Earth cooled when it passed through the spiral arms of our Milky Way galaxy because the arms contain more cosmic rays that increase cloud cover.

According to our best solar scientists, our sun has 200-year cycles upon which its 22-year sunspot cycles ride. The sun’s radiation passed its 200-year peak in the last 15 years. Soon the cooling sun will lead Earth into much cooler temperatures, possibly a repeat of the Little Ice Age.

Looking at the bigger picture, we are nearing the end of our probable 12,000-year warm period. No one can predict when it will end but all good scientists know it will end. Then the Earth will once again plunge into another 90,000-year ice age.

Temp400kyr-e1282624660794Both near term and long term, our concern must be about coming cold rather than imaginary coming warm. To survive, humanity will need abundant, low-cost energy for heating. Wind and solar will not cut it. We need nuclear energy to survive the long-term future and abundant carbon fuel in the interim.

So that, my fellow Americans, is the true picture of climate. You were not supposed to know this.

I have decided to take a bold step to carry America into the future. I will take these actions beginning tomorrow.

  • We will stop all government propaganda about our carbon dioxide causing dangerous global warming. All government websites will remove all material suggesting we restrict our carbon dioxide emissions.
  • We will reduce the research budget for climate change because most of it is useless. We will modify government-supported research in climate to fund good climate research without any bias toward the result of the research.
  • We will stop all grants to universities, colleges and schools that require teachers or researchers to promote global warming propaganda.
  • We will require where we have authority that all schools teach the scientific method. It’s time we teach American kids how to think.
  • We will remove the ridiculous notion, espoused by my speech writers, that our defense department must be concerned about climate change. Climate change takes place over decades. Defense operations take place in seconds to days and operate in temperature extremes that far exceed the one degree changes in average climate. Long-range defense planning may consider how to operate during an extended ice age.
  • We will pull out of our non-binding agreement with China on carbon dioxide emissions. China was not going to go along with this anyway. Neither China nor Russia is concerned about global warming. They know cooling is our greatest danger.
  • We will reopen those public lands that we have set aside during my administration to energy production and mining. Yes, I will approve the Keystone pipeline.
  • We will remove all restrictions to building nuclear power plants.
  • We will stop the EPA from interfering with those who develop America’s energy productivity.
  • We will remove all subsidies for renewable energy.

My speech writers wrote,

“And no challenge — no challenge — poses a greater threat to future generations than climate change.”

My fellow Americans, I agree but not in the context my speech writers intended.

The greatest threat from climate change comes from distorting facts, cherry-picking data, and ignoring the scientific method in order to promote a government political goal. This climate delusion causes a loss of American intellect.

We will stop government interference with scientific research. We will never declare science is settled. We will never abandon the scientific method.

The greater threat than climate change is to force our people to believe what is not so.

We must always seek truth because only truth can make us free.

  1. Hi Ed! One thing:

"As Ben Franklin said about inventing the light bulb, what he really learned were a thousand ways a light bulb will not work."

You might want to rewrite the unintentional humor there. It's a lightning rod for people who would disagree.

    I hope you are well!

    Best regards,

    Don

  3. Ed; What you have said that Obama should have said is all true but you know that the far left liberals will never admit such things that are so obvious to any thinking individual. There are two points that you did not touch on and that is the control factor of our energy presented with this agw hoax plus the chance for more revenue from a carbon tax.

“We’ve got to ride this global warming issue. Even if the theory of global warming is wrong, we will be doing the right thing in terms of economic and environmental policy.” – Timothy Wirth, President of the UN Foundation

“No matter if the science of global warming is all phony… climate change provides the greatest opportunity to bring about justice and equality in the world.” – Christine Stewart, former Canadian Minister of the Environment

“The only way to get our society to truly change is to frighten people with the possibility of a catastrophe.” – emeritus professor Daniel Botkin

“We require a central organizing principle – one agreed to voluntarily. Minor shifts in policy, moderate improvement in laws and regulations, rhetoric offered in lieu of genuine change – these are all forms of appeasement, designed to satisfy the public’s desire to believe that sacrifice, struggle and a wrenching transformation of society will not be necessary.” – Al Gore, Earth in the Balance

None of these people mentioned above could care less about the earth and its climate or about the people that struggle on the surface of it as long as they can control the process & that should be expanded to most far left political figures such as Obama & the dud he has pretending to be the Secretary of State, John Kerry.

  4. Thank you, Ed, for a wonderful critique of the greatest scientific fraud in history. Perhaps this message should be mailed to all the Congressmen who could use a remedial course in the Scientific Method, or who are just not paying attention to the real threat to our freedom and security. Maybe a greeting card format? I will pay for it if you will write it. It might be a good idea to include the top bureaucrats in the EPA. I'm sure Alan Carlin would agree.
