The Republican-dominated Montana legislature did not change Montana’s voting system to stop third parties from being in the final election. One possibility was the fully-open primary like California adopted.
On November 6, Libertarian Jerry McConnell may draw enough conservative votes to assure Tester’s win. This would repeat a similar loss by Republican Conrad Burns to Tester in 2006. Here are the official returns for 2006:
Democrat Tester: 199,845
Republican Burns: 196,283
Libertarian Jones: 10,377
To make matters worse for Rehberg, Tea Party Libertarians today are looking for way to “punish” him for supporting HR 1505, The Patriot Act, and NDAA.
